In December 1978, BOMA International recognized and accepted a local
property management council. After two years of preparatory
work the council became known as the Greater Hartford Chapter
of BOMA International, the first chapter in New England.
The Chapter grew from an initial 10 members to 163 members by the first
quarter of 2004. In 1984 and 1986 the Chapter won the prestigious Diamond
Award for strong growth.
The initial membership was focused in Hartford. However, the Chapter
now encompasses an area from Springfield, Massachusetts to New Haven,
Connecticut.
Members of the Greater Hartford Chapter have been actively involved in
BOMA International from the beginning and are well represented
in the Middle Atlantic Conference, BOMA, BOMI, ROC and SORPA.
Involvement is growing in civic areas with members active in the restoration
of the Old State House Building and the Riverfront Recapture Project.
Our industry is evolving and falling under a more regulatory environment.
Locally, we have lobbied our legislators on telecommunications issues,
private property rights and electric deregulation. While some gains have
been realized, many battles lie ahead.
An enthusiastic and active membership has helped the BOMA Greater Hartford
offer a well rounded program and activities schedule. Informative monthly
meetings are supplemented with the summer Gus Johnson Golf Outing, Allied
activities and the year-end holiday social. |
